What is a Life coach? What does a life coach do?
Intuitive coaching seems to be a hot topic recently. Like so many other 'newer' titles the term means different things to different people. You need to know what you are looking for and what you are open to doing. Be willing to explore new ideas and ways of thinking is imperative to your success.
What is life coaching and who can benefit from it?
When I started on my path there was no such thing as a life coach. You could find a mentor, but that was more of a business thing, certainly not for things like parenting. In the case of parenting you would read a book like Dr. Spock, discuss things with friends or simply muddle through. Guidance came from friends and family, and sometimes not at all.
Having a life coach can be invaluable. It's similar to having a mentor but for every part of your life. You may not need a life coach for parenting or relationships or business. You may need a life coach for all of them or just one. A life coach's job is to help guide you. They do not make decisions for you or pressure you into doing what they want you to do. A life coach helps you take responsibility for your own happiness and your own success while giving you the tools you need to succeed. A life coach will see things that you haven't thought about and sometimes will bring up things that you may have discarded. Tweaking your life giving you new way to bring greater success and greater satisfaction.
A life coach may help guide you in a particular area of your life. Many life coaches have a specific expertise, I'm told mine is business and relationships. In my opinion business and relationships require basically the same thing. The main difference is that one is done for money and the other is done for emotional support and satisfaction. In a business relationship clear communication and knowing how to grow your business and support your people is essential. Your people may be employees or clients or both. In other relationships, like familial relationships, parent-child relationships, and friendships, you basically are doing the same thing. Clear communication is the key that unlocks the world. Understanding others and helping them to understand you allows you to move forward in life more smoothly. How many arguments could be avoided with clear communication?
Just about everyone can benefit from life coaching. All of us have some area of our lives, at some point in our lives, that we become less than satisfied with. We can feel stuck or overwhelmed. At those points a life coach can help you overcome those feelings and move into a place of greater success. Be aware that the area of your life that you think needs your focus is not necessarily the root of your issue. I've had many people come to me thinking that business was the issue when actually it was their interpersonal relationships that were suffering. When seeking out a life coach, and figuring out what it is you need to focus on, it is good to be flexible. This is necessary so that when the core of the issue becomes apparent it is a place you're willing to go.
I once had a client who came to me for business advice and felt that he needed to address his business acumen. Once we started our process and really were speaking in depth, it became apparent to me that the true issue was his marriage. So long as he had stress and a lack of good communication in his marriage no matter what he did for his business it was not going to work. It wouldn't work because he was overstressed, anxious and worried perpetually. Once he came to terms with this, he decided to put some focus on his wife. Their marriage became a source of support instead of a source of panic allowing him to focus the energy he needed on his business which consequently began to thrive.
My forte is sussing out your relationships. Your relationship with yourself, your relationship with your family, your relationship with friends, your relationship with your co-workers, people and authority. All of these relationships create your life. If there is a kink anywhere in the system, it will show up in other parts of your life, and not just where you think the problem is.
My job as a life coach is to help you become a better communicator. By becoming a better communicator you will find that your life can run more smoothly. It does not solve all your problems magically, however it does help you find solutions more quickly. Being an effective communicator involves speaking AND listening. To communicate well you must have both components.
I started life coaching many years ago at the behest of my clients. Apparently no matter what I started out doing I ended up helping people resolve issues in their relationships. I have been a marketing consultant for much of my career. I enjoy going into businesses and watching the the way everyone works together. Once I get a sense of the dynamic in a business I can help address many issues including efficiency and Employee Relations.
What is Gabriel's Trumpet?
Gabriel's Trumpet (also called Torricelli's trumpet) is a geometric figure which has infinite surface area but finite volume.
The name refers to the tradition identifying the Archangel Gabriel as the angel who blows the horn to announce Judgment Day, associating the divine, or infinite, with the finite.
